Group Hug, our morning prayer time, was extra special this month as we talked about the Nativity. This iconic setting is often referred to in its entirety as the "manger" scene. In actuality, the manger is the bed where Jesus was laid. As we gathered to pray together the children were reminded that Mary and Joseph took great care to make a comfortable place for the baby Jesus and that they (the children), too, are welcome to help to do the same! A bucket of straw has been placed by the manger and each day we encourage the children to enjoy the anticipation of Jesus' birth by putting a few pieces of the straw in for Him. The words of our Christmas program song took on even more meaning.....they laid Him in a manger, oh my Lord, way down in BETHLEHEM. Way.....down in Bethlehem!
Find a few minutes during this very busy time of year to talk to your children about these details and how they are all important parts of this very holy season. Our December curriculum will be full of Christmas teachings. There are opportunities for teachable moments in everything we do as parents, as teachers, as Christians who believe!!!
From the book, "Parent on Purpose", by Amy Carney.......Parents, we must purposely provide opportunities for our child to authentically serve others. As parents, our "job" is to provide our children with the experiences that will help them develop into the caring and compassionate people they are meant to become.
Weekly Prayer.....Jesus, guide me in the ways that will bring joy to others by my actions. Allow me to show your Love in all I do and say. In your holy name I pray. Amen
